Art Failure Podcast - Episode 1 - June 2008

Well, here it is, the inaugural episode of ART FAILURE PODCAST- the random musings of a pack of a *ahem* over-the-hill blowhards who think they know something about film and music and ...oh sorry, I'm SUPPOSED to be promoting this thing. Right! What you're about to hear may represent some of the most cutting edge critique you will ever hear from the youngest, hippest, most in-the-loop crew...nah, who's kidding who? Film - Music - Art - Trash - TV ... what it's about ...

In this lavish monthly installment we'll be featuring a host of films direct from the Sydney Film Festival. Firstly Jody will draw us into the world of the wonderful Anvil! The Story of Anvil - a doco that follows the travails of a Toronto-based metal band called Anvil (naturally) and their 30-year 13-album journey from 15 minutes of fame to the long, hard slog of keeping the metal dream alive into their 50's - and a surprisingly comical, tragic, emotional - and in the end, triumphant - ride it is.

Dave's gonna take a look at what turns out to be some comic gems including In Bruges by director Martin McDonagh; the darkly humorous doco A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures; And the moving Iranian film from director Hana Makhmalbaf, Buddha Collapsed Out Of Shame. Dave also expounds on the virtues of the new-prog with his intriguing live encounter with one of the current proponents - The Mars Volta!

Al takes a look at the new spine-chiller from Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, El Orfanato (The Orphanage) - a tale of terror and children; a combo that always creeps us out!

And finally we descend into the joy of the free-for-all when Britain's brilliant POV odd-couple, Peep Show, takes the Television discussion to new heights of perversity.
